Heinrich Walter was born 28th May 1895 at Waterloo in the North of SA. He was Christened 23rd June 1895 at the family church St Johann Lutheran Church at Carlsruche SA. He was one of a family of 12 children to Henry William Cristoph Kruse and Ina Bertha Agnes,nee Strempel. Heinrich became a blacksmith when he left school. He served his apprenticeship at Hamilton, approx 25 kilometres from his home. His only means of transport to and from work was by bicycle. He served in WW1 in the 43rd Battalion where he was wounded and on returning, he married Mary Jane Hickey. They had no children. They left Waterloo and moved to the South East to work on a farm with his wife's brother Jim Hickey at Bool Lagoon near Naracoorte, SA. His occupation was listed as Wheelwright on his Army application. He died on 9th July 1979 and is buried at Enfield Cemetery SA
