25 May 1917: Honoured Military Medal, The Outpost Villages - German Withdrawal to Hindenburg Line, On the morning of 9 April 1917 during the attack on Hermies, he displayed great coolness in assisting Second Lieutenant Lionel James Price (awarded Military Cross for the action) to capture six Germans who had caused a lot of casualties by sniping. He afterwards did valuable work in the construction of a machine gun emplacement under shell fire as part of a strong point and set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty.
