"Robert was wounded just before dawn on 30 August 1915 while holding the newly captured Turkish trench just below the summit of Hill 60 where Hugo Throssell won his VC. According to his Lieutenant, Tom Kidd, 'He was conscious for more than an hour and calmly gave instructions re personal effects.' "
