Son of Jonathan Joseph and Elizabeth Emma Barlow, husband of Constance Violet Barlow.

Lieutenant Walter Griffith Barlow, killed in France on the 12th of May, 1917, was born in 1886.

He was appointed junior teacher at School 1689, West Melbourne, in 1905, and subsequently head teacher at Nos. 3382, Albacutya; 2486, Teal Point; 993, Boots Gully; and at various other schools as relieving teacher. He was in charge of the Watchem School at the time of his enlistment. His record is that of an enthusiastic, capable, and forceful teacher.

He enlisted as a Private on the 27th of April, 1916, was appointed to commissioned rank on the 1st of June, and, on the 25th of September, embarked, with the 5th Reinforcements to the 58th Battalion, on the transport Shropshire. After training for some time in England, he went to France, joining his unit on the 10th of February, 1917.

He was promoted Lieutenant on the 6th of April, and killed in action on the 12th of May. His widow and several young children live at "Basalt," Clarence Street, Elsternwick.
