Military Medal
'At POLYGON WOOD on 27/28th September, 1917, when both his Platoon Commander and Sergeant had been killed, this N.C.O. jumped into the breach, and , on his own initiative, led his platoon and captured the allotted sector of the final objective. During the consolidation his coolness and utter disregard of danger were great factors in maintaining the confidence of his men.'

The Rev. W Bett, on Saturday morning, received a message from the Base Records Office, stating that Sergeant George Douglas, of Winslow, died of wounds on October 6th. The sad news was at once conveyed to the father, Mr. D. Douglas, of Winslow. Sergt. Douglas sailed from Australian on Nov. 9 1915, and was 25 years of age when he died. Much sympathy is felt for the sorrowing parents, who are well known in the Winslow district.
DOUGLAS - On the 6th October, 1917, died of wounds in 7th Canadian Hospital, Sergt. G. Douglas, 31st Battalion, dearly beloved eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Douglas, "The Pines," Winslow, aged 25 years.
DOUGLAS - A tribute to the memory of Sergt. George A. Douglas, loving friend and comrade of Tom and Jack (on active service) and Will and Les One of God's best.
