Rupert Theodore Algernon BANNISTER was born in 1889 in Tamworth according to his war record , although his birth is registered in Penrith NSW

His parents were William Henry BANNISTER & Mary STANLEY who married in Wigan, Lancashire on 13th September, 1883

He enlisted in April, 1916 with the 33rd Battalion - they embarked from Sydney on 24th August, 1916 on ANCHISES & he was transferred to 9th machine Gun Company on 16th Jan, 1917

Rupert was killed in Action on 8th June , 1917 in Messines, Belgium

He is buried in Toronto Ave Cemetery, Belgium  Row C grave no.5,

He is also listed on the Penrith Honour Roll

BANNISTER - Killed in action in the field on June 8, 1917, Rupert Bannister beloved son of W H Bannister and brother of Ruth, Dorothy, Harold (on active service).  He died as he lived - nobly.
