Son of Henry Lindesay BLACKand Jean Fleming nee MYDDLETON
Mr. Hugh Lindsay Black, a well-known figure in the commercial life of the city, passed away in Rosemount Hospital, Brisbane, early yesterday morning, at the age of 43.
Deceased suffered from war disabilities and had been laid up for several mouths. About Christmas time, accompanied by his wife, he went to Brisbane for special treatment, but his strength gradually failed. Mr. Black was a Mackay native. He enlisted in 1915 and went overseas with the 1st Division Artillery. He served in France, where he was wounded in October, 1917. Subsequently, he returned to
Australia, and in 1919 was married in Brisbane. Mr. Black spent some time in the employ of T. E. Thorpe, stockbrokers and commission agents, Townsville, and, in 1928 started in a similar line of business in Mackay on his own account. Deceased was a member of Mackay sub-branch of the Returned Soldiers League and of the City Bowling Club, and hon. secretary of Mackay Club. He also took a
keen interesit inlpolitios, and was secretary of Mackay branch of the Nationalist Country party. Mr. Black is survived by his wife and two sons, aged 11 and 8 years respectively.
Messrs. Archie and Frank Black, well-known business men in Mackay, are his brothers. Another brother, George, is engaged in farming pursuits at Pinnacle Plain. There also is one sister, Mrs. L. Denman (Racecourse).
When the news of Mr. Black's death became known in the city, several flags were flown at half-mast. The funeral took place in Brisbane yesterday.
