A Veteran of 3 Wars, an Original Anzac resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

86 years ago today, on the Monday afternoon of the 26th August 1935, Corporal William (Billy) Divall, 6th Australian Light Horse Regiment (Reg No-63), railway guard from 43 Henry Street, Tighes Hill, New South Wales and Toronto, N.S.W., father of five (Arthur, Dorothy, Thelma Evaleen, ? ?), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 70. ANGLICAN 2-137. 42.

Born at Goulburn, New South Wales on the 8th May 1865 to William and Elizabeth Divall; husband of Jane N Divall nee Neill (married 1897, Newtown, N.S.W., died 20.5.1917, ANGLICAN 1-07. 85, remarried to Isabella Jane nee Cunliffe on the 17.11.1917, Wickham, N.S.W., of Toronto, N.S.W., died 1952, also sleeping here.

Billy enlisted September 1914 (stated age 45, actual age 49!) at Roseberry Park Camp, Sydney, N.S.W.
Admitted to hospital 25.7.1915 (injured hand, influenza, neuralgia), Billy returned home June 1916, being discharged medically unfit (muscular rheumatism) on the 16th September 1916.

Mr. Divall’s name has been inscribed on the Wickham Municipal District Roll of Honour Board (1) (photo courtesy of Ed Tonks OAM, unveiled on the 26th February 1916, 190 names inscribed), Kevin Wheatley VC Memorial Wall, Goulburn Soudan Campaign Commemorative Plaque and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name not inscribed on the NSW Govt Railways and Tramways Roll of Honour, 1914-1919.
A Veteran of 3 Wars - New South Wales Contingent, Soudan Campaign, 1885, Boer War, WW1.

Billy is resting beneath a brown granite Commonwealth War Graves headstone (urgent need of restoration), and I have placed poppies in remembrance of this Hero for his service and sacrifice for God, King and Country.

Service record states Died after Discharge, 24/8/1935.
