Son of Richard Cooper and Rose Cooper of nee Morris of Porter Street, Ballarat, Victoria
While serving with the 21st Battalion he went AWOL for about two years to which he plead not guilty to dessertion. He was found guilty and ordered to be mprisoned for two years which was suspended and he return to his battalion
Commenced return to Australia on 7 July 1919 aboard HT Chemnitz disembarking on 5 September 1919
