27 Feb 1916: Involvement AIF WW1, Sapper, 5832, 2nd Light Horse Brigade Signal Troop, Egypt and Palestine - Light Horse and AFC Operations, 21 March 1916 Maadi taken on strength from reinforcements. 18 April 1916 Tel-el-Kepir taken on strength. Transferred to the 2nd Division Signal company and was shipped off to France
18 May 1916: Embarked AIF WW1, Sapper, 5832, 2nd Divisional Signal Company, Sailed from Alexandria to Marseilles on the southern tip of France to start his involvement in the Western Front Campaign. He spend the remainder of the war fighting in the surrounding Amiens including Pozieres and Villers-Bretonneux.
5 Jun 1916: Involvement AIF WW1, Sapper, 5832, 2nd Divisional Signal Company, AFC / RFC operations Western Front / Middle East, Marched into Base Depot, Estaples to join the Somme Offensive.
2 Aug 1916: Wounded AIF WW1, 5832, 2nd Division Signals, Battle for Pozières , He received a gun shot wound to the back which was reported as mild. Stretched to clearing station, then ambulance train to Base Depot Etaples, then on to the 4th General hospital
3 Dec 1916: Promoted AIF WW1, Driver, 1st to 5th Divisional Signal Companies, See district paymaster record
3 Dec 1916: Transferred AIF WW1, Driver, 5th Divisional Signal Company, Not sure of the date of transfer but it was during the winter on the Somme and was the worst winter in 40 years. He was stationed here for 8 months until August 1917
24 May 1918: Wounded Driver, 5832, 5th Divisional Signal Company, Battle for Pozières , He was in Pozieres when the Germans let loose their mustard gas, blistering his eyes, something he suffered with for years afterwards.
2 Mar 1919: Embarked Driver, 5832, 5th Divisional Signal Company, HMT Derbyshire and arrived Australia 17 April 1919
9 Jun 1919: Discharged AIF WW1, Driver, 5832, 5th Divisional Signal Company, enlisted as Arthur Claude Bennell, his mothers maiden name. completed 1344 days service in the AIF.
