Sergeant HAYES did invaluable work constantly patrolling the different posts, he kept his officers well informed of the details of the situation and he showed great initiative in carrying out any necessary re-arrangement. His duty constantly kept him in the open in the heavily shelled parts of the forward area. His keenness energy and courage formed a splendid example to his men.
