Ernest and Henry Blake were among the first to enlist from Westbury, Tasmania, during August 1914. They were given a big send off from the town, including a band, when they left for Hobart shortly after. They were the sons of the local postmaster, Mr. H.G. Blake and his wife Caroline.
Ernest died during the heavy fighting at Gallipoli on 2 May 1915 and Henry was killed in action during the first day of the Battle of Pozieres on 23 July 1916.
