Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Herbert Jackson was the son of William and Emma Jackson and young husband of Rose Jackson, Victoria Road, Punchbowl, Sydney, NSW. He left an infant son as well, born in 1914.

His young wife, Rose, filled out his roll of honour form. She was obviously very proud of him. "He was very clever, he made a wireless, sending and receiving before he was 18 years of age. He underwent military training from the age of 14 to 18 years when he enlisted. He was always fond of the military and was very anxious to answer his King and country from the beginning of the war. He served in the war for 7-8 weeks on the Peninsula and then as far as I know in the Suez by his letters and then in France. Killed 21 May 1916."

His brother 1378 Pte. Ernest Jackson 3rd Battalion was severely wounded at Gallipoli just after the Landing and eventually returned to Australia later in 1915.
