Arthur fought in the Pozieres Battle and the 1917 battles of 2nd Battle of Bullecourt and Menin Road. He was 17 years 10 months old when he was killed.

His family epitaph reads-  LET FATE DO HER WORST, THERE ARE RELICS OF JOY, BRIGHT MEMORIES OF THE PAST, WHICH SHE CANNOT DESTROY.
