Biography contributed by Adelaide Botanic High School

Horace Carlier enlisted as a 17 year old in the 32nd Battalion in July 1915. He missed the Battle of Fromelles as he was still in Egypt at the time, but joined the battalion in November 1916. He was twice wounded in action: gassed at Villers Bretonneux on 24 April 1918, and then wounded in the ankle at St Quentin Canal on 30 September 1918. He survived the war, and then joined the Militia in World War Two, where he served for around three years.
