He enlisted under the name of John Browne, rather than Walter John Browne

Biography contributed by Yvonne Delaney

Jack was the 10th child, and 6th of 7 sons and 5 daughters of Edward Thomas and Mary ELLEN  (nee Wakeham) Browne.  He was born a twin with Frederick Charles who sadly only lived 4 months.  His mother died in 1904 when John was 14 and the family moved from Blakeville to Bacchus Marsh. He became a well-borer and worked all around Victoria prior to enlisting.

He seems to have changed his name around a fair bit, Walter John is on his birth certificate, other times seen as John Walter but was known in the family as Jack.
