DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY.

Sergeant IVOR HARRIS, who made the supreme sacrifice on April 11, 1917, at Bullecourt, was born at Lower Alma, near Hamley Bridge, on April 8, 1896. He received his education at the local school. He came to Mile-End with his parents in 1911, enlisted in February, 1915, and left South Australia in June, landing at Gallipoli on July 30. He took part in the Lone Pine battle. He spent several months in Egypt (where he contracted enteric fever), and in Sinai Desert, and went to France in June and fought in the battle of Pozieres, where he received two wounds, but remained on duty. Sergeant Harris was connected with St. James' Church and Sunday-school, was a member of the G.E.M.S., and the St. James' cricket and baseball clubs. He was highly esteemed by his employers, Messrs. Jas. Smith and Co., Hindley street.
