LANCE-CORPORAL J. B. TORPY.

Lance-corporal John B. Torpy, 1st I Reinforcements, 18th Battalion (miss-ing), is the youngest son of Mr and Mrs. John Torpy, late of Broken Hill, and now of Spit-road, Mosman (says the "Daily Telegraph"). He was one of the first to volunteer, and left Sydney with the first contingent for Rabaul, on August 18, 1914. He saw six months' service at Rabaul, and on his return to Sydney immediately volunteered for further service at Gallipoli. He is 26 years of age, and was educated at the Christian Brothers' College, Adelaide. He was formerly engaged in his father's business at Broken Hill.
