Private Eddie Crouch (Service No:1555) enlisted in the AIF on 6 August 1915 (having provided a false DoB). He served with 12/10 Light Horse Regiment and embarked for Egypt from Fremantle on 22 November 1915 on board RMS Mongolia. Private Crouch transferred to 3rd Light Horse Regiment on 3 March 1916 and embarked from Suez for the RTA on 10 June 1916 on board HT Ionus. Private Crouch was Discharged on 8 August 1916 on medical grounds (traumatic epilepsy). On 6 April 1917 he re-enlisted in the AIF under his birth name - Edward William Crouch - and was Discharged on 5 May 1917 from 6 Depot Battalion.
Born in 1898 in Perth WA, Eddie was the eldest of three children of Frederick (Fred) George Crouch (b1870 in Glen Iris, NSW) and Mary Ann Mackie (b1874 in Port Sorrel, Tasmania). Fred (a Railways Porter) and Mary married in 1896 in Perth, WA where they settled and raised their family. Fred served four months with the AIF in 1917, and worked in Perth as a Porter and Checker with the WAGR. Fred died in 1924 and Mary settled in Sydney NSW.
Eddie worked as a Jockey in Perth prior to his service in the AIF. Diagnosed with traumatic epilepsy, Eddie was Discharged and worked in Perth as a Labourer until his death in 1954.
