"Gunner A.F. von Steglitz reported wounded while a member of the 3rd F.A. Brigade is an old Toowoomba boy and was educated at the Toowoomba Grammar School. He held an honourable position at the school being a prefect, a Chelmsford Cup competitor, and the senior cadet officer. He left the school at the age of 18 and entered the Public Service, and was for two years a draftsman. Subsequently he learnt the surveying branch of the work, and had finished his field work, and was ready to go up for his final examination when war broke out. He was one of the first Queenslanders to volunteer, and gave up a good position to do so. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. von Steglitz, for many years of Toowoomba, but now resident at Lucinda-street, Taringa. A cablegram since received from Cairo states that Gunner von Steglitz is getting on well." - from the Brisbane Courier 01 Jun 1915 (nla.gov.au)
