Died on this date - 28th March........Private Leslie Arthur Eugene Russell was born in Hobart, Tasmania around 1896. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 1st June, 1915 as an 18 year old Driver from Pyrmont, Sydney, NSW.

Private Russell of 13th Battalion was transferred to 45th Battalion in March, 1916 in Egypt.

Private Russell was mustered as Driver on 1st June, 1916 & arrived in France on 13th June, 1916. He was admitted to Hospital on 25th June, 1916 with a fever which developed into Influenza & was sent to England where he was admitted to County of Middlesex War Hospital, Napsbury, England on 11th July, 1916. He was discharged on 8th September, 1916.

Driver Russell was posted to No. 1 then No. 3 Command Depots & then posted to 12th Training Battalion at Codford, Wiltshire on 15th December, 1916.

Driver Russell was returned to France & rejoined 45th Battalion on 18th January, 1917 & reverted to rank of Private.
Private Leslie Arthur Eugene Russell was wounded in action in France on 19th February, 1917. He was invalided to England & was admitted to Norfolk War Hospital, Norwich, Norfolk, England on 15th March, 1917 with gunshot wounds.

Private Leslie Arthur Eugene Russell died at 3am on 28th March, 1917 at Norfolk War Hospital, Norwich, Norfolk, England from wounds received in action in France - “G.S.W. abdomen. Penetrating.” He was buried in Earlham Road Cemetery, Norwich, Norfolk, England where 23 other WW1 Australians are buried.
