William Arthur Williams was one of five brothers who enlisted in the AIF. He was the son of Charles William and Matilda Williams of Parkes, New South Wales. His mother had passed away when he was five years of age.

William was 6 foot one and half inches when he enlisted in 1917.

His brothers who served were, 6853 Pte. Robert Miers Williams 35th Battalion AIF, killed in action 6 April 1918, aged 19.

William was transferred to the 13th Battalion when he reached France during March 1918. He was twice wounded during subsequent fighting and was transferred to the 5th Field Bakery just before the war ended. He returned to Australia during March 1919 and was discharged from the AIF, medically unfit, on 31 October 1919.

William married in Sydney during 1919 and raised six children. He died in Sydney at only 59 years of age during 1949.
