Audley Esmond Webster, also known as Webbie, was born on the 18th of May, 1896 in Adelaide, South Australia. Audley Esmond lived with his mother, Mrs Elizabeth Webster and was a member of the Church of England. During the later part of his life, Audley Esmond moved to Mount Gambier and worked as a bank clerk. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on the 21st February, 1916 at Mount Gambier. 

Webster embarked to France on HMAT A70 Ballarat from Adelaide, South Australia on 12 August 1916. He served in a private unit (2nd Depot Battalion) on 4th March, 1916 and the 32nd Battalion's 8th Reinforcement with the regiment number 3639. Audley Esmond was diagnosed with shell shock and he was hospitalised. On 8th October, 1917, he re-joined the previous unit he was a part of before he was wounded by shell shock. A year later on the 30th of April, Audley Esmond was admitted and treated at Haylingwell War Hospital due to gas poisoning. Webster was promoted as Sergeant twice and Corporal on 1st May, 1919. He returned to Australia on 4th December, 1920. Audley Esmond Webster died peacefully on the 15th of May, 1972 and was buried in Carinya Gardens Cemetery in Mount Gambier.
