Matriculated March 1913 in Science. An athlete of some repute, he represented Queensland in an interstate rowing competition in 1913.
Much sympathy is felt for Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Noble, of Red Hill, in the loss they have sustained by the death of their eldest son. Gunner John Noble, who was killed in action in France, on 23rd April. At the time the deceased enlisted he was an assistant teacher on probation at the Normal school, at which establishment the flag was flying at half mast, yesterday, in honour of the fallen hero. Deceased volunteered, for service in the A.I.F. in May, 1915, and about five months later he left, for the front. He was employed as a specialist on one of the howitzer batteries. At the time of his death, he was 23 years of age. Gunner Noble was a brilliant scholar and a keen sportsman. From the Kelvin Grove school he went to the Brisbane Grammar school, where he spent four and a-half years, subsequent to which he studied science at the University, with a view to taking a medical course in Sydney. It had heen his intention to go to the Sydney University after the war. Deceased took an active interest in athletics, more especially in rowing. He was a representative of the Queensland eight, which visited Adelaide about four
years ago, and at one time was captain of the Queensland Universiy eight.
