97 years ago today, on the Thursday afternoon of the 22nd March 1923, Private Harold Stanley Edgar, (also known as Snowy), 5th Australian Field Ambulance, clerk (Divisional Engineering Staff, Railway Department, Honeysuckle Point, N.S.W.), of 8 Maitland Road, Islington, New South Wales and Dumaresq Street, Hamilton South, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 27. ANGLICAN 1-25. 136.

Born on the 2nd October 1895 to Edward James and Elizabeth Jane Edgar; husband of Eva Edgar nee Orr (married 1922, died 1967, 44 years a widow), Harold enlisted March 1915 with the 20th Battalion at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Wounded in action - 5.5.1916 (multiple shrapnel wounds, face - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article133891914), 1.9.1918 (shrapnel wound, back and buttock - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article137490088, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article137487550), Snowy was also admitted to hospital on the 4.5.1918 with influenza.
Mr Edgar was invalided home Anzac Day 1919.

Harold’s name has been inscribed on the Honeysuckle Point Loco Workshop Roll of Honour, Islington St. Mark's Anglican Church Roll of Honour, Wickham Superior Public School Roll Of Honour, Wickham Municipal District Roll of Honor (Board 1) and the Newcastle Protestant Alliance-Perseverance Lodge No. 40 Honour Roll.
Mr Edgar’s grave plaque inscription has no indication that he served in the 1st A.I.F., nor does he have a Commemorative Plaque in the New South Wales Garden of Remembrance, so let’s remember Mr Edgar today, a forgotten digger of Sandgate Cemetery and The Great War.
