Biography contributed by Robert Wight

There is some confusion as to which unit this soldier was serving in when he was killed in action on 4 July 1918. That he was killed during the 15th Brigade's diversionary attack north of the Somme near Morlancourt (during the Battle of Hamel) is not in dispute.

Numerous witnesses state very clearly that he was part of 15th Brigade infantry at the time as he had "very recently transferred to infantry" - as in a matter of days.

Perhaps the paperwork had not caught up with the "transfer" or perhaps Dvr Allinson simply decided to join the infantry of his own volition on the day, as 15th Brigade had no record of him in their ranks?

We will probably never know.
