Aughward Cox VERTIGAN was born in Tasmania on 14th August, 1890

His parents were George Baxter VERTIGAN & Maria Jane COX

He married Isabel CONNORS at the Methodist Parsonage in Tasmania on 14th December, 1921 - 4 known children, Thelma Isabel, Harley Baxter, Leslie Neil & Augward Jack

He enlisted in Claremont, Tasmania on 18th October 1916 and embarked with the 40th Infantry Battalion, 6th reinforcements from Melbourne on the HMAT Orsova - he returned to Australia on 19th February, 1919 and was discharged on 6th June 1919

Aughward died on 24th August 1892 and is buried in the Central Coast Memorial Park, Ulverstone / Penguin

His brother John VERTIGAN (SN 1633) was Killed in Action at Gallipoli on 8th August, 1915 & his son Harley Baxter VERTIGAN  (SN26000) served in the Royal Australian Navy during WW2 and was discharged in 1946
