War Service/Promotions:    He served in the Middle East, England, France and Belgium, with the 4th and 5th Field Artillery Brigades, and 2nd Division Artillery Corps. Promoted Lieutenant 1 March 1916. Wounded in action, 1  May 1917, and admitted to 2nd Red Cross Hospital, Rouen, France, on 6 May 1917. He was then evacuated with severe gunshot wound to buttocks, to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, England, on 24 May 1917. Mentioned in Despatches, 9 April 1917, by Sir Douglas Haig. Promoted Captain, 2nd Division Artillery 1 September 1917. Wounded in Action, gassed, (2nd occurence) 16 October 1917, Belgium, and admitted to 5th Red Cross Hospital, Wimmeraux, France on 17 October 1917. Admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, England, 5 November 1917. Awarded Military Cross, 1 January 1918. Returned to Australia 15 May 1919, and his appointment was terminated 29 August 1919.

Fate:   Returned to Australia per Yperinga, 15 May 1919. He married Doris Catherine Remington, 8 June 1920, St Philip's Church of England, York Street, Sydney, NSW. He also served in World War 2, with rank Lt.-Colonel, regimental no. NX 102978.

Place of Wounding:   (1) Gunshot wound, buttock, severe, 1 May 1917, France. (2) Gassed, severe, 16 October 1917, Belgium.
