Andrew was the son of Andrew and Grace Mills of East Fremantle, Western Australia. His father, Captain Andrew Mills would become known as one of the most expert master mariners on the North-West coast of Western Australia.

Andrew Hepburn Mills died during the 51st Battalion’s attack on Mouquet Farm on 3 September 1916. He was reported missing and over the next year nothing could be found as to his fate. He was three months short of his twentieth birthday.
