Two cousins also from Moonta died during the First World War.
2415 Pte. Thomas John Murrin 50th Battalion AIF, killed in action in France on 2 April 1917, aged 34.
5581 Spr. Albert Harry Murrin 1st Australian Tunnelling Company killed in action 18 September 1917, aged 33.
Thomas served with the Tunnellers on the Western Front from September 1916 till his return to Australia during July 1919. He was promoted to Sergeant.
He married in 1920 and his son was born the next year. His son, Leading Aircraftman George Burnaford Murrin 52 Operational Base Unit RAAF suffered a fractured skull in a motor vehicle accident near Darwin, NT and died on 27 April 1944, aged 22.
