Thomas Harris was born in on the 9th February 1974 in Dyke Moray Scotland.  He imigrated to New Zealand at the age of 10 with his family about 1884.  He was one of 11 children.  His parents were Richard Heath Harris and Jane Alexandrina Ross. Sometime in the late 1800's Thomas decided to travel to Australia with his brother Samuel.  They arrived by boat in Sydney and looked for work.  After a while they went to Western Australia in search of gold.  They went to work at a gold mine in Lakside.  Thomas never married.  He was a farmer when he joined the A.I.F. in the 16th Battalion on the 24th November 1915 at the age of 41.  After training he boarded the HMT "Hunterspill" on the 7th June 1916 and arriving in Marseilles via Alexandria on the 14th June.  He then proceeded to join the 48th Battalion arriving in France on the 18th July.  

He was killed on the 6th August 1916 only a month after arriving in France.  His medals the (British War Medal and the Victory Medal) along with a Memorial Scroll and the Kings Message were sent to his mother some years later on the 5th May 1922.

He was 42 years old when he died.
