Son of Catherine Alice (nee White) and the late George Henry DALLAS, Perkin Street, Roma, Queensland
Mrs. W. Wilson (late of Goondiwindi) has received the sad information that her son, Corporal George Henry Dallas, died on the 14th June from gunshot wounds in the neck, which he received while fighting in France. Deceased enlisted as a private in Goondiwindi a little over three years ago.

George Henry Dallas was a labourer living at Gordon Station, near Goondiwindi, when he enlisted in Australian Imperial Forces in Toowoomba on 13 September 1915. He was 18 years old at the time - and was 5ft 16inches and 137lbs.
His next of kin was his mother, Mrs Catherine Alice Wilson. George’s father, who was by the same name, died when George was a small child.
George Henry Dallas enlisted as a Private with the 26th Battalion, 10th Reinforcement. His unit embarked from Brisbane, Qld on board HMAT A73 Commonwealth on 23 March 1916. George disembarked in Egypt in May 1916, before proceeding overseas to London. He joined the front via France and Étaples late September 1916.
He was taken on strength to the 49th Battalion on 17 October 1916 and promoted to rank of Lance Corporal in June 1917.
During his involvement in the Battle of Polygon Wood, at Ypres, he suffered a gunshot wound in the left shoulder on 27 September 1917. He was taken from the front and transported to 1st Southern General Hospital in Birmingham, London for treatment.
After recovering, he returned and rejoined his unit on 08 June 1918.
George Henry Dallas was shot in the neck on 12 June 1918, and later died of his wounds on 14 June 1918. He was 20 years old.
George is buried at Crouy British Cemetery (Plot II, Row D, Grave No. 5), Crouy-Sur-Somme, France.
George is commemorated at memorials at Canberra, Roma and Goondiwindi. His panel number at the Australian War Memorial is 148.
George Henry Dallas, the young labourer from country Queensland, was awarded the British War and Victory Medals.
