Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Son of the Late Alexander Cowie Hay, conductor of Hays Select Choir, Aberdeen, Scotland. His younger brother, 4804 Private Arthur Hay, also of the 51st Battalion, was killed in action on the same day at Mouquet Farm in France. Both men had arrived in Western Australia from Scotland in around 1910. Neither of the brothers has a known grave.
