On the 13th of September in 1891, George Arnfield Gladstone was born in Semaphore South Australia. He had a father named George Arnfield and a mother named Bridget Helena Dineen. Gladstone had an older brother named Thomas Edward Gladstone born on the 20th of the same month in 1886. He also served in the First World War, but as a Driver for the 2nd Divisional Ammunition Column.
George Gladstone enlisted in the AIF on the 10th of September 1915. He embarked overseas 20th May 1916 and served on the Western Front with the 8th Field Artillery Brigade.
