3786 Private Stanley Ernest FEATHERSTON 29th Battalion 9th Reinforcement A.I.F. After reaching the final objective at POLYGON WOOD on 26th, September, 1917, Private FEATHERSTONE was the only Company Runner who had not been hit. Owing to the fact that communications had broken down he was called upon to make many runs on 26th. and 27th September which he cheerfully did, in spite of physical exhaustion, and under the fire of numerous enemy machine guns and snipers. Recommendation: Military Medal [MM] Lieutenant-Colonel Muir Purser C.O. 29th Battalion

3786 Private Stanley Ernest FEATHERSTON 29th Battalion 9th Reinforcement A.I.F. During the attack and capture of VAUVILLERS on 9th August 1918. During the attack made by this battalion on the above village Pte. Featherston displayed great initiative and devotion to duty whilst acting in the capacity of Coy. Runner attached to Bn. Hqrs. When the Coys. were held up by extremely heavy M.G. fire from the front and right flank, and very heavy casualties had been sustained, it was impossible to ascertain the exact position and strength of the Centre Coy., Pte. Featherston with utter disregard to personal safety went out in the open in the face of a murderous machine gun barrage, and by his coolness and skill succeeded in reaching the Centre Coy. and informing the O.C. of the position of Coys. on his flanks. He also obtained and succeeded in bringing back through the barrage the information so badly needed at Bn. Hqrs. It was in a large measure due to this man's work that the village was ultimately captured and all objectives reached. Pte. Featherston showed throughout a remarkable sense of Devotion to duty and cool courage which was the admiration of all ranks. Recommendation: Distinguished Conduct Medal [DCM] Major Percy Charlton 30th Battalion Acting C.O. 29th Battalion
