Alexander Sutherland MacKAY was born in Brisbane, Queensland on 3rd June, 1884

His parents were Donald MacKAY & Mary Ann SUTHERLAND

He enlisted on 1st July, 1916 and embarked with the 9th Field Artillery Brigade, 6th Reinforcements on the ship Benalla from Sydney on 9th November, 1916 - he was transferred to the 8th Field Artillery Brigade (30th Battery) on 7th September, 1917

Alexander died on 18th December, 1918 in Italy of Bronco Pneumonia (Lobar) and is buried in the Turin Town Cemetery

Medals:  British War Medal & Victory Medal

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial

His older brother Douglas Donald MacKAY who did not serve in WW1 & was Secretary to the Police Commissionery died of Influenza & Pleurisy on 23rd June, 1919 in Queensland

Two of his younger brothers served in WW1

1. Ronald Stuart MacKAY (SN 6531) - returned to Australia on 5th April, 1919

2. Archie Graham MacKAY (SN 313) - Killed in Action on 9th May, 1915
