102 years ago today, on the 22nd August 1918, Private William Phillips, 33rd Battalion, horse trainer from Victoria Street, Adamstown, New South Wales, was Killed in Action near Bray-sur-Somme, France, age 36.

Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 23rd May 1882 to William (died 1916 - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article133844265, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article133844507) and Alice (died 1918 - http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article137488254) Phillips, William enlisted June 1917 with the 36th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.

William is also commemorated on the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France.
Mr Phillip’s name has been inscribed on the Adamstown Citizens' Memorial (photos, unveiled on the 17th December 1921).
