105 years ago today, on the 18th September 1918, Private Francis Anson A Mehan, referred to as Frank, 13th Battalion (Reg No-3680), wheeler from Henson Avenue, Mayfield East, New South Wales, was Killed in Action attacking the Hindenburg Line, age 19 years 1 month. Cause of death not stated.

No Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File.

Born at Raymond Terrace, New South Wales on the 6th August 1899 to Francis John (Frank, died tragically on the 30.3.1917, age 45) and Mary Agnes Mehan (mother of 11 children, remarried 1926, Wickham, N.S.W. to Charles H Kimber, died 17.3.1965, age?, Wyong, N.S.W., sleeping at CATHOLIC 2-62. 2) of 5 Coal Street, Islington, New South Wales (1917) and Maitland Road, Mayfield, N.S.W. (1918) and "Frankey", 64 Fawcett Street, Mayfield, N.S.W., Frank enlisted on the 30th June 1917 with the 56th Battalion at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A14 Euripides on the 31st October 1917.
Admitted to hospital 30.5.1918 (pyrexia or trench fever).

Frank is resting at Jeancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Plot I Row A Grave 15.

Place of Association – Mayfield, New South Wales, Australia.

Mr. Mehan’s name has been inscribed on the Carrington Memorial Gates, Carrington Municipal District Roll of Honor and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall. Name possibly inscribed on the Tighes Hill-Australian Holy Catholic Guild Roll of Honour, whereabouts unknown.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised Mehan gravesite in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of Frank for God, King & Country. CATHOLIC 1-02. 38.
