Transferred to 51st Battalion, Egypt 29 February 1916

Arrived in France 12 June 1916,  Received GSW to jaw in France on 6 September 1916 and evacuated to the UK, rejoined his unit in France May 1917

Appointed Lance Corporal in France 14 July 1918

Returned to Australia 1 May 1919 on board Ht China, disembarked Fremantle 1 June 1919
