Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Only 19 years of age when he died, Private Bevis Carrington was the youngest son of the late Captain Fred Carrington who for many years commanded the SS Coogee trading between Melbourne and Launceston. His father was killed aboard the Coogee when it collided with another ship in the Bass Straight on Christmas Day 1903, when Bevis was only five years of age.

His older brother, 196 Pte. Frederick Deacon Carrington 12th Battalion was killed in action at the Gallipoli landing on 25 April 1915, aged 21.
