Article from the Daily Advertiser, Wagga Wagga, 5th Feb. 1918

Mrs. A. J. Henningham, formerly of Wagga, but now of Second Avenue, Eastwood, has received the following letter concerning her son, Lance Corporal Malcolm Manley Henningham.

Dear Mrs. Henningham,— It is with feelings of the deepest regret that I have to write to you of the death of your gallant son. No. 6348, Lance-Corporal Malcolm Manley Henningham. He was killed in action in the battle of Passchendaelc, third battle of Ypres, on October 12. He was buried near the Ypres-Roulers railway, about a mile and a half south west of Passchendaele.

Throughout the time he served with us your late son did exceptionally fine work, and I had him on my list for promotion to commissioned rank. By his manly and honorable hearing, his strong sense of duty, his thoroughness, and by his courage and determination in action, he set us all a very fine example. We mourn, more than words can express the loss of such an admirable comrade. Officers, non commissioned officers and men all join me in offering you and your family. most heartfelt sympathy in this your sad bereavement.—

Yours very sincerely, Leslie J. Morshead, Lieut. Colonel - France,
