17 Sep 1915: Involvement AIF WW1, Private, 2355, 10th Infantry Battalion, The August Offensive - Lone Pine, Suvla Bay, Sari Bair, The Nek and Hill 60 - Gallipoli, Suffering from dysentery, Private Clark was admitted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance, before transferring to the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station.
25 Sep 1915: Involvement AIF WW1, Private, 2355, 10th Infantry Battalion, Upon disembarkation, Private Clark was admitted to St Patrick's Hospital, a temporary tented hospital set up in San Gwann, near the Tal-Balal crossroads, in an effort to cope with the rapid increase wounded coming from the Gallipoli campaign. As he recovered, Private Clark would be transferred to St Peter's Convalescent Hospital to regain his strength, before being discharged on 7/12/1915.
13 Dec 1915: Involvement AIF WW1, Private, 2355, 10th Infantry Battalion, After being discharged from hospital, Private William James Clark would embark for Alexandria on the HS Borau, arriving on 13/12/1915.
7 Mar 1916: Involvement AIF WW1, Private, 2355, 10th Infantry Battalion, Private Clark rejoined his unit in Serapeum, Egypt. Upon restructuring of the 1st Division, the 10th Battalion became the 50th Battalion, part of the newly formed 4th Division, and they became known as "The Barrier Battalion".

5 Jun 1916: Embarked AIF WW1, Private, 2355, 50th Infantry Battalion, Private Clark and the 50th Battalion joined the B.E.F. (British Expeditionary Force Force) on 5/6/1916, before embarking for France on the Arcadian.
12 Jun 1916: Involvement AIF WW1, Private, 2355, 50th Infantry Battalion, Disembarking in Marseilles, Private Clark would travel through the centre of France via a rail journey. Shortly after the battalion's arrival in France, it became part of a concentration of divisions in the Somme sector, made up from the 1st, 2nd and 4th Divisions.

Son of Albert CLARK and Susan Jane PRETTEJOHN fmly CLARK, Henley Beach, South Australia

CLARK.—Private W. J. Clark, 2315, previously reported wounded, and missing since September 27th, now reported killed in action, France, the only beloved son of Mrs.  E. W.  Prettejohn, Henley Beach, and brother of Mrs. V. Chapman and Mrs. F. Lowrie, Torrensville, and Mrs. W. Kaehne, Hilton. His duty nobly done.

CLARK.—Private W. J. Clark, 2355, previously reported wounded and missing, now reported killed in France.—Inserted by his loving step-father, L. W. Prettejohn, Henley Beach. Greater love than this can any man do, he laid down his
life for King and country and freedom.

CLARK.—Private W. J. Clark, 2355, killed in action in France on September 27th, the eldest beloved grandson of J. I. Ackland, late of Mount Lofty. Faithful unto death.
