Son of John Quillan and Margaret Quillan of Frankland Street, Glasgow, Scotland.

Brother of William Witherington Quillan who returned to Australia on 23 July 1919 having served with the 15th Light Horse Regiment.

Commenced return to Australia on 17 April 1920 aboard HT Bahia Castillo
