Biography

"THE LATE CORPORAL A. C. SMEDLEY.

Mrs. A. C. Smedley, of Brougham-place, North Adelaide, has received word that her son, Corporal Arthur Carrington Smedley, who was previously reported wounded, died from the effects of wounds inflicted through the bursting of a shell at Gallipoli on August 9, 1915. The late Corporal Smedley left Broadmeadows under the late Colonel Miell, of the 9th Light Horse. A comrade writes:-

"He was a fine soldier, always cheerful, brave, and a hard and willing worker, and everyone loved him."

For some years the deceased was in the employ of Messrs. Dalgety & Co., being their manager and auctioneer at Snowtown, Jamestown, and Port Augusta. His kind disposition endeared him to all who knew him." - from the Adelaide Advertiser 28 Jun 1916 (nla.gov.au)
