Robert Daniel Hood was born in Port Melbourne. When he enlisted on the 18.10.15 at Perth, he was aged 21years 3 months and was serving in UT 86A. His occupation was boilermaker's assistant, he was a Presbyterian and his mother, Christina Beckett, lived in Fitzroy, Victoria. Robert was described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a chest measurement of 34-36¼ inches, fresh complexion, blue eyes and dark brown hair. He had a tattoo of a heart and dagger on his forearm. He was allocated the rank of Private and the service number 4450. Most of his service was with the 11th Infantry Battalion. Two other soldiers listed on the Honour roll, B. Westbrook CSM & WW Williamson L/Cpl witnessed Robert’s will at Blackboy Hill. He embarked at Fremantle on HMAT Miltiades A28, travelling to Alexandria. Then HT Transylvania took him to Marseille, where he arrived on the 4.4.16. On the 20.4.16 he was admitted to hospital with influenza, then rejoined his unit on 8.6.16. Robert was wounded in action during fighting between 22-25 July 1917. He sustained a shell wound to his shoulder and was sent to the 1st General Hospital in Birmingham, England. He was treated for mumps from 5.3.17 at Wareham Military hospital, then sent to France via Southampton on 9.10.17. He arrived in Le Havre on 10.10.1917 and from there, his unit proceeded to Belgium. Robert was killed in action at Passchendaele Belgium on the 31.10.1917 and buried in Passchendaele New British Cemetery Plot 13 Row E Grave 7
