Biography

Arthur Joseph Denis Cronin was the 3rd child of Daniel Arthur and Margaret Cronin (nee Clark) Arthur was born in November 1882 in South Yarra, Melbourne, Victoria.  In 1903 he can be found living with his mother Margaret at 2 Bourke Cres Geelong.

Arthur was 32 years and 11 months when he enlisted in the army as a trooper on 23 October 1914. Arthur’s service number was 386 and he served in the 10th Light Horse Regiment. Arthur embarked for Gallipoli on 6 May 1915, he was killed in action on 29 August 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. His name appears on the Lone Pine Memorial in Gallipoli. He is also on the 10th Light Horse memorial in King’s Garden in Perth and on the Wall of Remembrance at the War Memorial in Canberra.
