John Henry (Jack) POAD was born in 1887 in Callington, Cornwall England 

His parents were John George Bennett POAD and Mary Ann ROBERTS - he had one brother Charles Robert and two sisters Ada Elizabeth & Beatrice Grace.

The family went to Canada in 1896 and sadly his father John died there in Ontario in 1898 and the family returned to England

John & his brother Charles were sent to Western Australia in 1900 on the ship Omrah and were living there with an Edwin & Margaret POAD in Kalgoorlie - Their Mother & Sisters stayed in England but in 1920 they also came to Western Australia on the ship Osterley - his Mother Mary Ann died in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1925

John enlisted in Blackboy Hill in Western Australia on 20th January, 1916 with the 16th Battalion - he was with the 20th reinforcements who embarked from Fremantle on 13th October, 1916 on HMAT Suffolk

He was wounded three times  during the course of the war and died on 11th June, 1918 at the 47th Casualty Clearing Station - he is buried in Crouy British Cemetery in France & also memorialised at the Australian War Memorial & the War Memorial plaque at St Dominic Church in Cornwall, England

He was awarded the British War Medal & the Victory Medal

Sadly his brother Charles Robert POAD (SN 2006) 11th Battalion also lost his life in WW1 and died on 20th August, 1916
