"THE LATE PRIVATE T. W. RIVETT.

Mr. and Mrs. Z. Rivett, of Avenue Range, have been notified that their eldest son. Private T. W. Rivett, died of meningitis on October 8. The late Private Rivett enlisted in Kingston in June last, and embarked for England on August 28. He was born at Avenue Range, and was of a bright and genial disposition and highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was in his 31st year." - from the Adelaide Chronicle 18 Nov 1916 (nla.gov.au)

Died on this date – 8th October…… Thomas William Rivett was born 9th October, 1886 at Avenue Range, near Kingston, South Australia.

He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 8th July, 1916 as a 29 year old, married, Labourer from Kingston, South Australia.

Private Thomas William Rivett, Service number 2139, embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on HMAT Anchises (A68) on 28th August, 1916 with the 11th Infantry Brigade, 43rd Infantry Battalion, 3rd Reinforcements.

On 24th September, 1916 Private Rivett was admitted to Ship’s Hospital with Cerebro Spinal Meningitis.

Private Thomas William Rivett died on 8th October, 1916 while at Sea on board HMAT Anchises (A68) from Meningitis.

He was buried at Sea on 8th October, 1916 from HMAT Anchises (A68). He is commemorated on the Hollybrook Memorial, Southampton, Hampshire, England as he has no grave. His death is acknowledged by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
