Eunice
Prior to departing Fremantle, in the crowd he gave the plume from his slouch hat to a girl who caught his eye and asked her to look after it whilst he was gone.
Upon his return from war, at the welcome home march, a voice from the crowd said "Excuse me, sir, would you like your plume back".
Her name was Eunice they later married and were together for 74 years until her death in 1995.
