Prior to enlistment Thomas was empolyed at the Great Extended Hustler's Mine.

A court of enquiry found that Pte 539 Thomas Victor Garnet Watson died 12 June 1917 from injuries received, and a subsequent Cerebral haemorrage, after he fell from the Citadel Wall at Amiens on 11 June 1917.
There was no evidence of "alcoholic intoxication".
